Nissan - #withdad

The commercial starts out with a young man and woman in the delivery room of a hospital giving birth to their first son. Playing in the background the entire time is, Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin. In total 177 words of the lyrics are spoken. We then follow both the man and the woman on through about 17 years. Shown is the growth and maturing of the boy and the progressing career of the father as a race car driver. The father hardly ever sees his son and misses many mile stones of his life. The father is constantly at risk of crashing and being injured while racing. The commercial ends with the father finally winning a race and later being outside waiting in his Nissan to pick his son up after school, screen fades to black and the Nissan symbol, the commercial ends. The category of TV spot is Emotional. While there was no universal truth present, the spot did contain Jim Joseph’s trend, The Year of the Dad. I believed the ad to be very successful and personally I enjoyed it. The lyrics to the song are very moving, as were the scenes depicted, a brilliant pairing. According to the ad meter at usatoday.com it ranked 10th in the top ten most engaging commercials of super bowl 49.
